Doug Pearson Memorial Scholarship – Indigenous Education

Doug Pearson (July 31, 1946 – February 27, 2022) was a respected educator all his working life, starting as a high school science teacher and going on to become a Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and finally Superintendent of School District 83 for 14 years until his retirement in 2011.

In 1990 he established a student exchange program between SD 83 and Japan and continued his support of this program until his retirement. He was also a strong advocate of school music programs and established a scholarship for Indigenous students seeking advanced education.

In his private life, Doug was much loved for his humour and strong friendships. He enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and travelling.

This award is chosen by the Indigenous Education Department. If you are interested in applying, please speak with your school’s Indigenous Education Worker (IEW).

2026 Award
One scholarship of $500 plus an additional $500 from Indigenous Education for a total of $1,000
